January 1965, Monte Carlo Rally. Snow, cold, and ice lined the route—the most adverse conditions imaginable for man and machine. Of the 296 teams that started, only 35 reached the finish line that year. Eugen Böhringer and Rolf Wütherich drove their 904 to a fantastic second place overall when they arrived exhausted at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco on January 20. The strain on driver and vehicle is obvious – contemporary photos show the car completely covered in a mixture of snow, mud, and road grime, with chunks of ice frozen to it. This is exactly how we present the car in this limited edition of 30 pieces, created exclusively with and for CMC in collaboration with German artist Jochen Kieslich. Water stains on the windshield, fingerprints on the side windows, spilled gasoline on the tank, dirt and grime on the engine, and even the rally pass that the drivers stuck to the side window are visible.
